Salesforce.com partners with Practice Fusion
Salesforce.com has become a minority shareholder in startup Practice Fusion, a software company that provides electronic medical records applications. Practice Fusion's patient health record application will be offered on Force.com, Salesforce.com's cloud computing platform, by the end of the year.
GSA moves toward online cloud storefront
The General Services Administration has issued a Request for Quotation document, to set up guidelines for cloud service providers that wish to participate in an online storefront to provide federal agencies with cloud computing technologies.
Informatica releases cloud data integration tool
Data integration solution provider Informatica has released a beta version of its PowerCenter Cloud Edition tool. This data integration software has been upgraded from its 2006 standalone edition to run on Amazon EC2 and use the cloud tools Amazon SimpleDB and Amazon S3.
Cloud computing adoption to double
A recent survey from IT intelligence firm IDC indicates that cloud computing adoption will double in the next three years. 15% to 25% of companies questioned said they currently use the technology, and 25% to 45% said they would begin operations in the cloud in less than 36 months.
Azure: Everything to everyone?
In Microsoft's attempt to surpass its prospective competitor, Google App Engine, Azure will support non-Microsoft programming languages, new application programming interfaces and alternative prices.
New optical disc to complement the cloud
Hitachi and Mitsubishi plan to coordinate on a new optical disc with 25 times more data than a Blu-Ray disc. The disc would be created in part to complement the large amount of storage capacity necessary to store data in the cloud.
