Rackspace releases more APIs

Rackspace, which recently released its Cloud Server APIs to the public, has now released its Cloud Files API in an attempt to build more confidence with developers and intensify competition with Amazon.

CA supports Amazon EC2

CA announced a partnership with Amazon that allows some of its tongue-twister products, including the Business-Driven Automation, Service Management, Application Performance Management, and Database Management products, to integrate with and support Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2).

IBM using cloud to get stimulus cash

IBM is pitching its cloud computing services as a solution for health care and energy networks, in an attempt to be eligible for the $100 billion U.S. government stimulus package set aside for these industries.

Penguin Computing creating cloud environment

Linux cluster vendor Penguin Computing has announced a cloud computing service , dubbed Penguin On Demand (POD), designed to appeal to those in need of high performance computing (HPC) at a lower cost than building it yourself.

VMware to acquire SpringSource

In an attempt to strengthen itself in the Platform as a Service market, VMware has acquired application development framework provider SpringSource for $362 million.

Hosting providers resist adopting app platforms

Google, Microsoft, Rackspace and Salesforce.com came to HostingCon 2009 arguing for more hosting providers to offer application development platforms in the cloud, but their enthusiasm was met with some resistance from the hosting providers in attendance.
