Stress getting to the cloud

According to a seven month study of stress tests on cloud computing services completed by an Australian university, Amazon EC2, Google App Engine and Microsoft Azure suffer from "performance and availability issues."

Apple building cloud data center?

Despite a good deal of secrecy, speculation is indicating that Apple's new $1 billion data center in North Carolina will be devoted towards a large-scale cloud computing operation. We think it's most likely Apple is building this to support its own operations, not to compete with Google or Amazon!

SpringSource acquires Java cloud platform

Days after being purchased by VMware, SpringSource announced both its acquisition of Cloud Foundry and the immediate availability of SpringSource Cloud Foundry, a subscription-based service for deploying and managing Java applications in the cloud.

New cloud BI tool cheap, and it shows

RightScale, Vertica, Jaspersoft and Talend have partnered on a cloud computing business intelligence (BI) designed to be a low-cost offering, but reports say it is " complicated and unpolished by cloud standards."

NetSuite starting "cloud for clunkers"

CRM provider NetSuite is mirroring the government's "cash for clunkers" automobile program by offering its own $500 rebate for every $5,000 investment in its cloud-based CRM service.
