The companies listed below are the finalists for the 2017 Modern Infrastructure Impact Awards' best Private/Hybrid Cloud Management Tool category. 


ClearSky Data Global Storage Network

ClearSky Data is a fully managed, global service for primary, backup and DR data. The company's tiered service caches hot data at the edge of users' applications, warm data within one of ClearSky's own points-of-presence, and all data -- including cold and archival data -- is replicated within multiple locations in the public cloud. The ClearSky dashboard gives users visibility and control over their enterprise storage, and the service is elastic, so users can scale it up or down, as needed.


With Cloudyn's software as a service product, users can gain visibility and insight into multi- and hybrid cloud deployments, using a number of graphical reports and a customizable dashboard. In addition to tracking cloud performance metrics, such as instance runtimes or usage spikes, organizations can use Cloudyn's software to right-size their virtual machines in the cloud, and to track cloud usage and costs by business unit.  Cloudyn supports Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform and OpenStack.

Commack Data Center

The Commack Data Center is a new data center facility operated by mindSHIFT, and IT outsourcing and cloud services provider. The facility consists of two "pods," each with 15,000 square feet of floor space, 735 rack capacity and more than 6 megawatts of power, and is designed to provide managed hosting, colocation and cloud computing services to mindSHIFT customers. offers a software as a service-based analytics tool that provides users with more visibility into their hybrid cloud deployments and helps them make more informed decisions about workload requirements. In addition, the tool helps users track and optimize public cloud costs, determine whether an application should run in a public or private cloud and when to move workloads to a new hosting environment. supports public cloud platforms including Microsoft Azure, SoftLayer and Amazon Web Services.

Embotics vCommander

Embotic vCommander is a management platform that helps IT teams automate provisioning, implement policies and enable a self-service model across private, public and hybrid clouds. The platform supports inventory management, workflow automation, chargeback and capacity management. Users administer their cloud deployments through vCommander's web-based interface, and Embotics uses proprietary APIs for the underlying hypervisors and cloud platforms to enable integration.

HotLink Hybrid Express

HotLink Hybrid Express is a platform for deploying and managing resources across hybrid cloud environments. The platform extends the capabilities of users' existing VMware vCenter management infrastructure to public cloud platforms, such as Amazon Web Services, allowing them to unify on-premises and cloud administration, apply automation across hybrid workloads and use VMware templates across different platforms.

New Relic

New Relic provides cloud systems management software that gives IT teams visibility into application performance and the user experience in private, public and hybrid clouds. As a cloud-based service, New Relic gives developers more control over deploying and managing cloud applications from a single dashboard. In addition to application monitoring, New Relic's software helps IT teams monitor components of their cloud computing infrastructure, such as Amazon Web Services compute instances.


RightScale's software as a service offering includes cloud management and analytics tools for public, private and hybrid clouds. The company's cloud management capabilities, in particular, allow organizations to configure and manage infrastructure as a service (IaaS) resources, monitor workload performance and control end user access. In addition, a visual dashboard helps IT teams monitor and optimize costs across public and private clouds. RightScale's tools can work with Amazon Web Services, Azure and Google public cloud services.


Scalr's software provides management, cost analysis and security features for IT teams deploying and administering multi- and hybrid clouds. Organizations can use the software to create and enforce usage policies across different cloud platforms to make sure users can only access the resources and services relevant to them. Scalr also allows teams to create application lifecycle policies, automate workflows and use either Scalr's own orchestration engine or other configuration management tools, such as Chef and Puppet. The software also includes cloud budgeting tools and alerts, letting IT managers know when they're nearing a budget threshold.

Zerto Virtual Replication 4.5

Zerto Virtual Replication (ZVR) 4.5 is a replication and recovery service available for private, public and hybrid cloud environments. IT teams can use ZVR to replicate virtual machines between or within data centers, or to public cloud platforms, such as Amazon Web Services. ZVR helps automate the disaster recovery process, minimizing data loss for files, folders, VMs and applications, and reducing the mean time to recovery.
